Performance Upgrades & Aftermarket Modifications
Thoughtful upgrades for drivers who want more from their vehicle.
Performance Work Done Right
Most performance shops approach modifications the same way a parts store approaches sales. They sell you what you ask for, install it, and hand the keys back. The result is often a vehicle that feels different but performs inconsistently, or one where the modification creates secondary problems that weren’t anticipated.
At Dimond Automotive, performance upgrades go through the same diagnostic and consultation process as every other job. We assess your vehicle, understand your goals, and recommend modifications that make sense for your specific vehicle before any work begins. That approach produces better results and avoids the common mistakes that come from bolt-on enthusiasm without mechanical context.
We work primarily on European and import platforms where our diagnostic capability and platform knowledge mean we understand the baseline we are starting from and what the vehicle’s architecture will and will not support.
Dimond’s Performance Upgrade & Modification Services
ECU Tuning and Engine Management
ECU tuning is among the most impactful and most misunderstood modifications available for modern European and import vehicles. A well-executed tune adjusts the engine management parameters to better match the vehicle’s actual hardware, optimize fueling and timing for the fuel quality available, and in many cases unlock performance that the manufacturer deliberately left on the table for market segmentation or regulatory reasons.
The results vary significantly by platform. A turbocharged engine responds differently to tuning than a naturally aspirated one. A BMW N54 has substantial headroom on a stock tune. An Audi TFSI responds well to staged tuning that works in concert with supporting modifications. A Porsche flat-six has a different character entirely. We understand those differences and approach each tune accordingly.
We offer ECU tuning for European and import platforms including BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Subaru, and others where reputable tuning solutions exist for the platform. Call us to discuss your specific vehicle and goals.
Performance Exhaust Systems
A performance exhaust upgrade on a European or import vehicle does several things simultaneously when done correctly. It reduces exhaust backpressure, which frees up power the engine is working against. It changes the exhaust note in ways that range from subtle to dramatic depending on the system and the platform. On turbocharged vehicles in particular, reduced restriction downstream of the turbocharger can meaningfully support additional power gains when combined with appropriate engine management.
The tradeoffs are real and worth understanding before committing. Volume, droning sounds at various speeds, potential emissions implications, and fit quality vary significantly between manufacturers. We discuss those realities in consultation and recommend systems that match your goals as much as they match your budget.
We install performance exhaust systems including cat-back systems, downpipe upgrades, and header replacements where appropriate for the vehicle and the owner’s intentions.
Suspension Upgrades and Handling Modifications
Suspension upgrades range from modest improvements to the stock setup through to comprehensive track-focused builds. The right choice depends entirely on what you actually want the vehicle to do and where you plan to drive it.
Street-focused suspension upgrades prioritize improved handling response and reduced body roll while maintaining ride quality that is livable on daily-driven vehicles. Coilover systems allow ride height and damping adjustment. Sway bar upgrades improve cornering stability. Alignment specifications can be optimized for handling characteristics beyond the factory settings.
Track-focused work is a different conversation entirely and starts with understanding the rules and requirements of the events you plan to attend. We approach suspension modifications as a system rather than individual components because changes in one area affect behavior everywhere else.
We perform suspension upgrades and alignment work for European and import vehicles, with particular experience on BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, and Subaru platforms.
Aftermarket and Bolt-On Modifications
Beyond the three core upgrade areas above, we handle a range of aftermarket modifications for European and import vehicles including cold air intake systems, intercooler upgrades for turbocharged platforms, short shift installations, brake upgrades including larger rotors and performance calipers, and other modifications that complement the core vehicle architecture rather than work against it.
We are selective about what we install and why. There is a large market for parts that look good on a spec sheet but underdeliver or create secondary issues on real vehicles. We tell you when we think a modification is not worth the cost and why, and we only install components we believe will actually improve the vehicle in the way the customer expects.
A Note on Our Approach
Performance upgrades attract enthusiastic owners who have often done significant research before they contact us. We respect that. Our job is to add mechanical context, vehicle-specific knowledge, and honest assessment to that research rather than simply validate whatever a forum thread recommended.
The same diagnostic rigor we bring to European auto repair, classic car work, and factory-level diagnostics applies here. Performance modifications on precision vehicles reward knowledge and punish shortcuts.
Makes and Models We Work With
Our performance upgrade work focuses on the European and import vehicles we service across the shop, though our experience spans well into the domestic market.
This includes BMW where significant power gains are available from the turbocharged inline-six and inline-four platforms, Audi where the TFSI and TFSI-derived engines respond well to staged modification, Volkswagen where shared architecture with Audi means similar opportunities and similar considerations, Porsche where modifications require particular care given the engineering precision of the base vehicle, and Subaru where the turbocharged EJ and FA platforms have a long modification history with well-understood results.
We also work on domestic platforms and other imports on a case by case basis. Call us to discuss your specific vehicle.
